To Paris and Budapest

Reading at Shakespeare and Company at 7pm on Monday, then staying a couple of nights before flying to Budapest. It's a privilege to read at the famous bookshop so I am very much looking forward to it. Founded by Sylvia Beach and now run by George Whitman's daughter, Sylvia.

I hope to be posting from Budapest - possibly Paris too.

How exciting, George. If you've not read it, can I heartily recommend one of my favourite literary biogs, Sylvia Beach and the Lost Generation, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sylvia-Beach-Lost-Generation-Literary/dp/0393302318

One of my favourite places on earth. And Sylvia was kind enough to agree to keep a copy of my poetry play and my novel upstairs in her not-for-sale-only-for-sitting-and-reading room. Just knowing that my books are there in that building is a thrill. Have a wonderful time!

Typing this upstairs at S & C. The reading was great - see blog. Given a tour of the house this morning and met 95 year old George Whitman, au lit, frail and wondering why we weren't staying in the damn house. Told him we were booked a room round the corner in the Esmeralda. Smiled.

Lovely photograph. Now I know how it looks from the outside.
